Gerald Edelman opines as valuation expert in an ownership dispute of a large food manufacturing business

We are delighted to announce that Gerald Edelman’s Forensic and Expert Witness team, has provided expert valuation evidence in a dispute regarding the ownership of a leading manufacturer of processed meat and other food products.

Ultimately, the expert valuation report helped to secure a fair result for the Claimants, who reached a significant settlement agreement in respect of the matter.

The instructions to Carl Lundberg and the Gerald Edelman team were to (a) estimate the current value of the company; (b) estimate the value of the company at a historic date, and (c) calculate profit and monies extracted from the company by the Defendants between specified dates. In addition to the preparation of our report on behalf of the Claimants, our role included meeting with the Defendant’s expert and preparing a joint statement of experts.

The engagement was complicated by the fact that the key witnesses were largely drawn from a close-knit community where business arrangements are rarely recorded in writing. Further challenges included the tight timescale of the engagement (Gerald Edelman reported within two weeks of the appointment) and the fact that it was undertaken during the middle of the UK’s Covid-19 lockdown.

Cal Lundberg commented:

“Despite significant time pressure and other challenges, I am delighted with the result delivered for our client, which is a testament to the Gerald Edelman team who worked tirelessly throughout the assignment to present a fair and objective opinion.”
