What our clients have to say…

From the very first engagement, information gathering and initial strategies, we found David Horowitz, Partner, Wealth Management of GE extremely knowledgeable on the whole area of IHT, CGT and Estate Planning combined with a very pleasant and professional manner and communications style.  David’s experience was clearly evident.  David also brought into our discussions the GE Tax Partner, Amal Shah who we also found very knowledgeable on some of the tax principles we were trying to understand.  It was therefore very natural for us to engage the GE team in setting up a new Family Investment Company but to now also the on-going accounting function of the FIC.

We were generally super impressed by getting prompt answers to our questions very often either side just picking up the phone, “as it’s easier to speak directly”.  The makings of a longer term relationship.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

What is wealth management?

+
-

Wealth management is about bringing together the different aspects of your financial life into one joined-up plan. This can include investments, pensions, retirement planning, tax planning, estate planning and protecting your family’s financial future. A good wealth management adviser will take the time to understand what you want to achieve and help structure your finances accordingly, rather than simply focusing on individual products or investments.

Who can benefit from wealth management advice?

+
-

Wealth management advice can be valuable for anyone whose financial circumstances have become sufficiently complex, that they would benefit from professional guidance. This may include people approaching retirement, business owners, families looking to pass wealth to the next generation, or those who have accumulated significant pensions, investments or other assets. Ultimately, it is less about reaching a particular level of wealth and more about whether good advice can help you make better financial decisions and achieve your goals.

What happens during an initial consultation?

+
-

An initial consultation is an opportunity for us to understand you, your current financial position and what you would like to achieve. We will discuss your priorities, existing arrangements and any particular concerns or decisions you are facing. We will also explain how we work, where we believe we may be able to add value and the likely costs involved. There is no obligation to proceed, and where we do not believe our advice would add sufficient value, we will be clear about this.

How often should I review my financial plan?

+
-

We believe financial planning should be an ongoing process rather than a one-off exercise. For most clients, we would expect to formally review their financial plan at least annually, while remaining available throughout the year as circumstances change. Significant life events such as retirement, selling a business, receiving an inheritance or changes to your family circumstances may mean your plan should be reviewed sooner. Changes to tax rules, legislation and investment markets can also affect the assumptions on which your plan is based

Can you tell me if I have enough to retire?

+
-

Yes, connecting with a wealth management adviser is a great option for those who are planning for retirement because they can help form a solid plan to help you achieve the lifestyle you have in mind. Many are unclear about their costs in retirement and how best to meet them. By using our cashflow planning tool we would work closely with you to quantify your needs in retirement and understand whether it is obtainable. Importantly, we would stress test these to provide you with additional levels of comfort.

Can you help with Estate and Inheritance Tax planning?

+
-

Yes. Estate planning is about much more than simply reducing a potential Inheritance Tax bill. We can help you understand your potential Inheritance Tax position and explore ways of passing wealth to your family or other beneficiaries while ensuring that your own financial security remains the priority. Depending on your circumstances, this could involve gifting, trusts, pensions, investments or insurance. We will work alongside your solicitor, accountant and other professional advisers where appropriate to ensure that the different elements of your estate planning work together.

What makes Gerald Edelman Wealth different?

+
-

We believe good wealth management starts with understanding you, not selling you a product. Our advice is built around your goals, circumstances and the life you want your wealth to support, with financial planning sitting at the heart of everything we do. As part of Gerald Edelman, we are also able to work closely with specialists across accountancy, tax and business advisory services where appropriate. This allows us to take a genuinely joined-up view of your financial affairs, particularly where personal, family and business finances overlap. We combine this breadth of expertise with a highly personal service and long-term relationships. We are transparent about our fees, do not believe in unnecessary complexity or products, and will always be clear where we do not believe we can add sufficient value.

How do your fees work?

+
-

We pride ourselves on not charging extra for everything – our clients only pay for the advice they need, not the products they don’t. We are always transparent with our charges. While our charges will be driven by the bespoke nature of work undertaken for your circumstances, we will always set these out to you in detail before engaging. We do not lock you in for any period and do not believe in exit penalties or superfluous charges. Furthermore, where we do not believe we can add value to your circumstances we will be clear about this.
