I truly enjoy what I do – both in my work with my clients and in my leadership role at Gerald Edelman.

Spending my days talking to interesting people about their businesses doesn’t feel like a job at all. I really try to help my clients and always think about the opportunities and challenges facing their business. I take great pleasure in going the extra mile and exceeding their expectations.

I really try to help my clients and always think about the dynamics of their business. I take great pleasure in going the extra mile and exceeding their expectations.

My main areas of focus are strategic management, corporate finance and private equity. I particularly enjoy my involvement in structuring joint ventures and alliances and helping to prepare businesses for sale. I hold several non-executive board positions for companies in various sectors ranging from investment advisers and technology companies to those in the retail, hospitality, business services, and professional services sectors.

I am currently the Steering Committee Chairman of our international alliance, XLNC, as well as a member of the Life Assurance Association and of the Institute of Directors.

I qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1983 and became a partner at Gerald Edelman in 1986, aged 27. I recently passed the examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants to become licensed to offer Probate services. You can view Richard’s ICAEW profile here.

What’s the most daring thing you’ve ever done?

Running my first marathon was hard enough, I still can’t believe I’ve gone on to run eight more. The pain! Oh, the pain! Normally after 20 miles, my legs often told me (in their way) that they wanted to go home – and they often did – leaving me to get through the final 6.2 miles without any contribution from them!

What’s the most exciting thing on your bucket list?

To visit Antarctica and feed the penguins.

If you could have dinner with anyone who would it be?

Nelson Mandela – he was a remarkable man and a truly inspirational leader.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Indefinite youth – because I never want to grow up! Lol.
