Driving digital transformation with the Made Smarter grant scheme
The UK Government’s Made Smarter grant scheme is expanding, and with it, exciting opportunities for small and medium-sized (SME) manufacturers.
Since 1 April 2025, the programme has become available to businesses in the South East, South West, East of England, and London, thanks to a £16 million government investment aimed at accelerating digital adoption in manufacturing.
What is the Made Smarter scheme?
Made Smarter is a national initiative designed to boost UK manufacturing through digital innovation. Born out of an industry-led review, the programme supports SMEs in modernising their operations by investing in digital tools and technologies. Eligible businesses can access tailored advice and a match-funded grant of up to £20,000. For SME manufacturers looking to improve productivity, reduce carbon emissions, or stay competitive, this could be a valuable opportunity.
Who can apply?
The scheme is open to manufacturing and engineering SMEs with:
- Fewer than 250 employees.
- An annual turnover of £50 million or less.
How to apply
The application process is simple:
- Registration: Register your interest through the Made Smarter website.
- Assessment: A Made Smarter adviser will then conduct a business assessment to determine your eligibility and identify potential areas for digital transformation.
- Digital roadmap development: Support is then provided to develop a tailored digital transformation roadmap.
- Grant application: Eligible businesses will then be supported with their application for the match-funded grant.
