I help our clients with any VAT compliance requirements they have. This includes VAT registrations (for companies, groups, partnerships etc.), options to tax, error correction notices; reviewing, preparing and submitting VAT returns; assisting with Partial Exemption and Annual Adjustment calculations; helping with HMRC pre cred checks and audit queries; chasing up HMRC for missing repayments, setting up Government Gateways and direct debits.

I joined the VAT team in October 2024 and I support my colleagues in providing VAT compliance services to our clients.

I have a BA Honours Degree (Geography) from University of Sheffield, I’m ATT (Association of Tax Technicians) qualified, completed three years in my parent’s Chinese Takeaway (putting the lids on containers and eventually rising to the dizzy heights of working on the counter and answering the phone) and have 28 years in the American Express UK VAT Team.

What is the most exciting thing on your bucket list?

To get a seat on the 6.05pm Thameslink service from London Bridge to Brighton for the entire journey. Once I achieve that, I have no more worlds to conquer.

What one piece of advice would you give your 10-year-old self?

Definitely, and with no hesitation, my advice would be “please treat others in the same way that you would want them to treat you”.

If you could have dinner with anyone, who would it be?

My dream dinner guests would be Robin Williams, Billy Connolly, Rik Mayall and John Candy. I’d be happy to just say nothing and let these maestros tell their stories.

Who inspires you?

My family and friends; Michael Flatley (Lord of the Dance); Brian Blessed; Jurgen Klopp; Laurel and Hardy; Julie Andrews; Pearl Jam and Michael Fish (the former BBC weather forecaster).
