Reduced rate of VAT for hospitality

The government has issued changes to VAT for food sold at pubs, restaurants and similar premises.

This factsheet details the new rules for both eat in and takeaways, listing the change in VAT rates for individual categories.

As of today, Thursday 24 September, the government has announced that it will extend the temporary 15% VAT cut for the tourism and hospitality sectors to the end of March next year. The reduced VAT rate of 5% not only applies to pubs and restaurants, but also hotel and holiday accommodation and admission to certain attractions.
